Peter Lee, the founder of Sinome Brand, is an American-Chinese, native Xiangshan Guangdong (Renamed Zhongshan City now). As Chinese Coolies abroad, his family migrated to Hawaii and West Coast of America since 1835 and then settled down there. Drift from Xiangshan to Honolulu and then San Francisco, they are the epitome of Coolie Labor’s suffering history.

  

Hometown Flavor in Box

Cantonese are fond of dried orange peel which are widely used as ingredient for soup cooking, medicinal materials, relish for making tea, but as they led a wandering life in American, it is very difficult for them to taste real dried orange peel made in hometown, they had to ask their local relatives to send if they missed the flavor, or brought some for them in passing if only someone travelled to American. However, as dried orange peel is very susceptible to moisture, and lack of proper storage method, the most of them went moldy, worm-eaten or sour after long-journey transportation to American.

 

In Peter’s childhood memory, his father always opened the box gently and picked the good ones very carefully when he got dried orange peel from China every time. Little Peter once curiously asked his father that what’s in the box, deep meaningfully, “That’s your hometown flavor in the box” said his father.

Little Peter remembered deeply that how his father cherished the feeling of this food got from hometown, and Peter was always thinking what he could do to keep this food storing longer and staying freshness while he grew up, so that thousands of the Chinese American can enjoy the flavor from China, and relieve from feeling of homesickness lasted for hundreds of years.
